Battlefield 3 vs Modern Warfare 3 In a US Presidential Election

In a follow up to our Battlefield 3 vs Modern Warfare 3 Comparison Chart, we have decided to peg the two titles against each other again, but this time in a mock US Presidential election. If an election was held today, who would become President… Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3?

The Set-Up

The US Presidential elections are determined by the total Electoral College vote count. If you are not familiar with how the system works or just want to refresh your memory, check out this great how-to video on YouTube. In short, the candidate with the majority of State-wide votes wins the electoral votes for that State.

With that in mind, we knew that we had to find out the popularity of both games in every US State. For this data we turned to Google Insights for Search, as this tool allows you to analyze search keywords and you can easily compare and determine what people are searching for on Google in real-time and how popular those searches are. Here is how we approached our test:

• Used popular keywords, including possible abbreviations.

• Focused on searches done in the last 3 months, within the United States.

• Compared total average popularity scores State by State as Google calculates those results on a scale of 1 to 100.

• In case of a popularity tie, the corresponding bar graph was used to determine the winner.

The Results

Let’s get on with the results. There were some very close races, heck the entire election came down to just 10 electoral votes. Here is a breakdown of results for some key battleground States:

The Winner

The next President of the United States is… Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3! With a lead of just 10 electoral votes!

Wrap-Up

This was a close race to say the least. As we started putting the final numbers together, it just kept going back and forth between the two games. In the end, we couldn’t believe how close it was, both titles showed an impressive performance. The numbers speak for themselves though. Battlefield 3 was carried by very strong support in the West, while Modern Warfare 3 had a clear lead in some of the Southern and Northeastern States. Of course since these search popularity numbers are in real-time, they change every day but one conclusion is clear: the country is excited about both games.
