GTA V: 9 Details You Never Noticed in the New Screens

This past week Rockstar has released 10 new GTA V screenshots (transportation, leisure, business). With everyone pouring over the shots and many websites providing their own analysis of the images, we’ve noticed that even they missed a few details which we’ll share with you now.

So, let’s get started with this shot first:

1. The plate sticker on the left clearly spells out “OCT”. Does that indicate that the game will be released this October? Maybe, but then…

More Grand Theft Auto V Screens: Leisure

As promised earlier this week, Rockstar has followed up the newly released screenshots with 3 more shots under the title “Leisure”.

There are still 3 more empty spots remaining on the official GTA V website, which might indicate that Rockstar intends to release more screens later this week (or sometime soon). Stay tuned!

10 of the Worst Video Game Box Covers Ever

The typical video game box cover is supposed to interest and excite you, with the whole purpose of making you want to buy the game. That is unless something goes horribly wrong in the marketing department and you are left staring at one of these in your local GameStop:

Um… no, thank you. Because if I was to imagine party babyz, the FBI would be at my door within minutes.

This “state-of-the-art” game has everything you’d ever want, including a shiny metal dildo for a hand.

The “lubed-up” bikini-clad models were so distracting that back in the day protesters of this game focused on sexual aspects of the packaging rather than decapitations and other violence within the actual game. Now if only R* would learn from their lessons, we wouldn’t have any of those in-game GTA controversies.

Proof that GTA V will be released this October (or November)

With all of the hype surrounding GTA V lately, we can all speculate on when we think the game will be released. But rather than just guess a date without any supporting facts, we got an idea to go back and find out how long it took various GTA titles to be released after they were officially announced.

We considered all major GTA title releases starting with Grand Theft Auto III. After finding the exact date on which each game was first announced (official press release/trailer/screenshot/interview) we calculated how many days passed until it was released in North America. Here is what we found:

Both of the major franchise titles, GTA III and GTA IV, took just about a year between the official confirmation and the actual release. Expansions and DLCs have a shorter cycle, with the exception of The Lost and Damned which was delayed by Take-Two.

Source 2 Engine References Spotted, but You Should Curb Your Enthusiasm

So I am sure that by now you’ve read by now that Valve fansite ValveTime.net has published a post revealing multiple references to “Source 2” in the Valve’s Source Filmmaker program.

A piece of uncovered code, reads: “Return an str with the current engine version. If key doesn’t doesn’t exist, assume ‘Source,’ otherwise invalid – assume next-gen ‘Source 2.’”

So does that mean the next-gen Source engine is in development? Perhaps. While we can speculate all we want, we should take note of some comments made by Valve as little as a year ago in regards to Source and Source 2:

In a May 13, 2011 interview with Develop, Gabe Newell of Valve had the following to say when responding to “Is Source undergoing a major update?”

Electronic Entertainment Expo 2013Los Angeles, California2013JUNE11-13

Mark the date and the location in your calendar because the Entertainment Software Association confirmed that E3 is coming back to Los Angeles (and will stay there at least until 2015).

If you remember earlier in June as E3 2012 wrapped up, there were rumors that the ESA was thinking of moving the show somewhere else next year. As Micheal Gallagher, President of the ESA put it:

...we have a number of issues that still need to be resolved. If we can’t resolve them, we are preparing to go elsewhere.

Looks like they did resolve those issues, so tune in June 11-13, 2013 for our E3 2013 coverage from Los Angeles, California!
